      Your needs. Your plan.

A good buddy asks first and listens. This course prepares you to work with a Classified diver: you will agree what help they need, what they can do on their own, and how you will communicate. Respect for their decisions is part of every dive together.

      Confidence grows together.

You can expect theory, a final test and support practice in a pool or confined water. You will demonstrate assistance with Open Water Diver skills according to the diver’s needs. The public SSI standard does not specify a fixed number of hours or mandatory open water dives.

Entry is from 15 years with Diver Stress & Rescue or an equivalent recognised qualification. Before certification is issued, proof of first aid and CPR from the last two years is required. Once the requirements are met, you will receive SSI Classified Dive Buddy; dives remain within the training and limits of the supported diver.

    04 / FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

    What
    else are you interested in?

Do I need to be an instructor?

No. The course is for divers aged 15 and over with Diver Stress & Rescue or an equivalent qualification and current first aid and CPR.

    Is Open Water Diver enough?

OWD alone is not enough. First you need to meet the rescue qualification required for entry.

How many lessons will there be?

Marek will decide the number of theory and pool sessions according to the progress of the training. No fixed number of hours or open water dives is prescribed in the public standard.

Will this make me an instructor?

No. The course prepares you to support a diver. Instructor qualification and the authorisation to conduct training are separate.

    Marek KušiakOpen Water Instructor

    Marek Kušiak

    SSI Open Water Instructor #117682

Sidemount enthusiast. He tailors training to the experience and needs of his students.

He started diving in 2006 with IANTD and over the years took courses in many diving systems with many instructors. Time and gradually gained experience have shown that courses across all organisations are very similar and that, overall, the instructor’s approach matters more than the name of the system. This is what he tries to follow during teaching and he adapts courses as much as possible to the students.

After a shoulder injury, he left technical diving for a while before deciding to try sidemount. Since then, he has fallen in love with sidemount diving. He currently mainly teaches this form of diving, which opens up new and interesting possibilities for beginners as well as experienced divers.
