SSI Extended Range Sidemount product card03 / 03Course SSI Extended Range Sidemount is an entry into the world of technical diving in sidemount configuration – a modern way of arranging equipment that opens up new possibilities for exploring caves, wrecks and other confined spaces. By placing cylinders along the sides of the body, it offers greater freedom of movement and allows divers to reach places where a classic configuration is too restrictive.
In the course you will focus on: correct setup and configuration of sidemount equipment; correct planning of sidemount dives; working with multiple cylinders in sidemount configuration; correct techniques for handling cylinders underwater; control of buoyancy, trim and efficient movement; emergency procedures and problem solving in sidemount configuration.
Photo from the SSI Extended Range Sidemount range – 101 / 03The course teaches you the correct setup of the sidemount configuration and the techniques needed to safely and efficiently use up to 3 cylinders in no-decompression diving. You will gain greater control over your equipment and your movement underwater, while also learning skills you can use in all further SSI Extended Range programmes.
The sidemount configuration places the cylinders along the sides of the body, which offers greater freedom of movement and makes it easier to pass through confined spaces.
With 3 cylinders, you gain a larger gas supply, allowing you to plan longer dives while also providing a greater reserve for safely completing the dive.

Sidemount develops precision, efficiency and overall control during the dive, while also preparing you for further SSI Extended Range programmes.
The course develops skills in the configuration; on its own it does not replace training for cave or wreck penetration.

We strongly recommend having your own sidemount configuration – due to the harness setup, which is highly individual. If you do not have your own, it can be hired. A stage cylinder is provided for hire during the course.
Compared with the recreational course, the XR Sidemount course is the first step into technical diving. The course also includes working with 3 cylinders, instead of the two used in the recreational configuration.
No. The materials are currently in English.
With the Sidemount configuration, you will have one extra cylinder. So 3 cylinders in total.
Usually within 1 working day we will activate your access and contact you to arrange the lesson.

Marek KušiakOpen Water InstructorSSI Open Water Instructor #117682
Sidemount enthusiast. He tailors training to the experience and needs of his students.
He started diving in 2006 with IANTD and over the years took courses in many diving systems with many instructors. Time and gradually gained experience have shown that courses across all organisations are very similar and that, overall, the instructor’s approach matters more than the name of the system. This is what he tries to follow during teaching and he adapts courses as much as possible to the students.
After a shoulder injury, he left technical diving for a while before deciding to try sidemount. Since then, he has fallen in love with sidemount diving. He currently mainly teaches this form of diving, which opens up new and interesting possibilities for beginners as well as experienced divers.
