      Understand and protect.

      You can study freshwater ecology without a diving certification. Online preparation is complemented by teaching with Jiří Musil and a final theory exam. Upon completing the requirements, you will earn the SSI Freshwater Ecology certification; this programme does not include training dives.

    3–6 hours duration by agreement with the instructor

    How the training takes place

    Online self-study and theory sessions with Jiří Musil. The course includes no dives or pool training; no diving equipment is needed.

    What do I need to bring?

    You do not need equipment for the theoretical training. The instructor will go through everything you need with you.

    What is Freshwater Ecology?

    The programme explores life in fresh water and the relationships between organisms and their habitats.

    Do I need to be a diver?

    No. The course is also open to non-divers aged 6 and over and requires no previous diving certification.

    Does the course include a dive?

    No. This is an academic programme with self-study, instructor-led sessions and a final exam.

    The instructor for this programme is Jiří Musil. We will arrange your session individually.

    How long does the course take?

    SSI recommends 3–6 hours. Arrange your online study pace and instructor session to suit your schedule.

    Which languages are the materials available in?

    SSI study materials are available in Czech and English.

    end with us.

    Divers Direct regularly organises one-day and weekend Events and diving expeditions for members of its club. And you can continue with follow-on courses right at these events.

    Our own 8m diving pit

    We train in the deepest pit in the Czech Republic – at Aquapalace Praha in Čestlice. There we have ideal conditions for pool training, and it shows in our divers.
