The SSI SCR Extended Range Horizon course is an advanced course in the world of semi-closed rebreathers – modern technology that takes diving to a completely new level. Thanks to more efficient use of breathing gas, SCR offers longer time underwater, a minimal amount of bubbles and significantly greater comfort during the dive.
Mares Horizon is designed to combine the benefits of a rebreather with the simplicity and safety of recreational diving. The course is ideal for divers who want to expand their skills, improve their trim and buoyancy control, and gain experience with modern diving equipment.

Preparation and procedures.
During the course, you will focus on: How the SCR system works; unit assembly and checks; correct planning of SCR dives; working with nitrox; emergency procedures and switching to open circuit; efficient breathing and unit control.
SCR technology allows significantly more efficient gas use than classic open circuit diving.

Quieter movement underwater will be appreciated not only by photographers and videographers, but by anyone who wants to enjoy calmer contact with the underwater world.
The breathing mix is warmer and more humid, which increases comfort during longer dives.
SCR diving naturally develops better buoyancy control, trim and overall efficiency of movement underwater.

Course duration
Approximately 30 hours duration by agreement with the instructor
The stated course duration is the minimum training time. The actual duration depends on each student’s progress and mastery of the required skills. Training may be extended as needed.

Do I need experience in XR diving?
No! You can take the course as a recreational diver.
How long will the unit extend my time underwater?
You can stay underwater up to 8x longer than on open circuit.
How does breathing with SCR differ from OC?
The air is warmer, more humid and more pleasant to breathe.
What is SCR?
SCR is a semi-closed breathing circuit that recycles part of the exhaled gas and continuously adds fresh gas mix.

From Zanzibar to teaching. He shares his passion for diving through courses and social events.
He first got into diving on holiday in Zanzibar, where he walked round the dive centre for so long that he eventually “accidentally” wandered inside. He was lucky enough to have a great local divemaster, who probably thought diving had to totally captivate him – and it did so without exception.Before his holiday even ended, he was already signed up for the OWD course, which marked the beginning of his diving journey.
Since then, he has completed dives in quarries and at sea, and discovered that he absolutely loves working with people and passing on his enthusiasm for diving. This was followed by the Divemaster and Open Water Instructor courses, thanks to which he can now meet other divers at courses and events.
P.S.: As the divemaster in Zanzibar would say: “Hakuna Matata”.
The course does not
end with us.
Divers Direct regularly organises one-day and weekend Events and diving expeditions for members of its club. And you can continue with follow-on courses right at these events.
