    NO QUESTION IS TOO SILLY

    Before you
    dive in.

From what age can a child start?

SSI allows Junior OWD from the age of 10. Divers usually teach children from the age of 12; acceptance of a child aged 10–11 should be arranged individually with the school before booking. The junior certification is for ages 10–14.

How does the Junior differ from the classic OWD?

The basis is the same theory and diving skills, with teaching adapted to the child. The difference is the junior certification, age limits on depth and the mandatory accompaniment on future dives.

How deep and with whom can a child dive?

At the age of 10–11, no deeper than 12 metres; at 12–14 years, no deeper than 18 metres. A Junior dives with a certified adult or under the direct supervision of a diving professional, always in conditions appropriate to the training and experience.

Does the child have to do a try dive session first?

No. The course is also for complete beginners who can swim. A children’s try scuba diving session can help to find out how the child feels underwater.

Do we need our own equipment?

The necessary equipment is included in the OWD offer. Check the size of children’s equipment and the suitability of the selected option with the school in advance, especially the drysuit in the Dry option.

What needs to be sorted out with the parents?

Before training, the legal guardian checks and signs the required SSI forms. This includes a medical questionnaire and, depending on the result, a doctor’s certificate. You will arrange dates, completion and the necessary accompaniment with the school.

When can I complete the course?

Standard and Premium in the Czech Republic are completed approximately from mid-June to the end of September, depending on the weather and water temperature. Dry allows year-round completion depending on conditions and capacity.

Can I complete it by the sea?

Yes. The school organises OWD completion in Croatia in spring and autumn. Please confirm the current event and costs with the school. Another option is Referral: theory and pool at home, open water later.

    Is the certification international?

Yes. SSI OWD is an internationally recognised certification. Your study materials remain accessible to you after activation.
