SSI PROFESSIONAL / Expanding teaching skills
Teach others what you enjoy most about diving. Expand your teaching with specialities that make sense for you and your students.
Specialty Instructor
You gain an instructor qualification for a specific approved specialisation. This does not automatically extend your authority to all other programmes.
Practical explanation on the shore01 / 03
Explanation and joint preparation at the table02 / 03
Training in the diving pit03 / 03After the basic course, students look for another reason to get back in the water. Someone wants to improve their navigation, another wants to extend the season in a drysuit or better understand the underwater environment. As a Specialty Instructor, you will help them develop a specific interest and skills.
Practical explanation on the shore01 / 03It is not just about being able to do the activity itself. You will think about how to teach it: what the student needs to understand before the dive, how to prepare an effective lesson and how to recognise when its objective has been achieved. Your own experience will thus take the form of clear, comprehensible training.
Explanation and joint preparation at the table02 / 03We select specialisations according to your current qualification, experience, the environment in which you work, and the needs of your students. You can start with one topic and add others gradually. The scope of each instructor qualification has its own rules.
Training in the diving pit03 / 03
We connect your interest with your existing experience and what you want to offer students. We will verify the prerequisites of the specific specialisation.
You will familiarise yourself with the objectives, materials and structure of the programme. You will design an explanation that links the necessary theory with practical application.
Depending on the programme, work in the classroom, by the water or underwater will come into play. The trainer monitors the content, organisation and clarity.
We will evaluate the preparation and fulfilment of the requirements. We will discuss equipment, organisation and how to incorporate the specialisation into your further teaching.
In Divers' offer you will find topics ranging from practical diving skills and equipment to understanding the underwater environment. The availability of a specific instructor programme and trainer will be confirmed during the consultation.
SSI distinguishes several paths to qualification, for example an instructor seminar, co-teaching or documented experience where the standards allow it. The suitable path depends on the specific specialisation; there is not one common requirement for all.
Deep Diving, Navigation, Night & Limited Visibility, Dry Suit Diving or Wreck Diving.
Boat Diving, Equipment Techniques, Full Face Mask or Photo & Video.
Science of Diving, Marine Ecology and Coral Identification. We deal with React Right as a separate area of instructor qualification.
What you need before you start, what awaits you and what to budget for.
The time required depends on the programme, your qualification and the chosen pathway. We also plan topics with practical training according to location and conditions.
Theory and pool training at Divers Direct facilities. Open water is planned according to the specific programme, conditions and agreement with the trainer.
Get to know our schoolWe will confirm the specific price and scope for your programme. For professional training, materials, the chosen option and any follow-up assessment also matter.
Current course offerBefore starting, the trainer will verify the current SSI requirements, recognition of equivalent qualifications and the necessary documents. For active professional practice, medical fitness, first aid, oxygen, professional registration and other conditions according to the level are also addressed.

04Training in the diving pitIt depends on the specific programme. Some qualifications have different entry requirements than practical diving specialisations. Let us know your current level and the topic you want to teach.
Yes, several topics can be planned together. However, each must meet its own requirements and have sufficient space for preparation and assessment.
We will review your documented experience with you. The method of recognition depends on the specialisation and current SSI rules; the sheer number of dives alone does not guarantee instructor qualification.
For this offer, the materials are dealt with separately. Before confirming the course, you will receive an overview of the specific scope, the required materials and any additional costs.
Start with what you regularly do yourself and what your students will use. During the consultation, we will also take into account the available locations, equipment and your existing qualifications.
Meet our professionals who can teach this course. We will agree the specific instructor and date together.
